As a logical next step after the Studio Art class - you will be developing your understanding of art to find connections between yourself and the community you live and learn in. 

Push Your Artistic Skills

By applying the 8 Studio Habits of Mind you ARE an artist. You will be responsible for developing your understanding of not only artistic techniques but pushing the media you choose for your projects.

Advanced Art is for the motivated art student.
Assignments for this class will push you to be creative, to have good craftsmanship, and to grow as an artist. The class will work mainly two-dimensionally and will cover a variety of media and techniques, all of which will help sharpen your ability to “see as an artist.”

Our climate has an impact on the art artifacts we make. After watching this YouTube video from The Art Assignment, be prepared to respond to a prompt that you will need to discuss with your class and then create a piece of art to respond to this topic.

How Artists Use Them  Reference Document
  • Develop Craft - Applying proper use of tools, materials, artistic habits; and learning to care for tools, materials, and studio space. 
  • Engage & Persist - Embracing obstacles of relevance within the art world and/or of personal importance, to develop focus conducive to working and persevering at tasks.
  • Envision - Imagine mentally what cannot be directly observed, and imagine additional possible steps in completing a piece of work.
  • Express - Create works that communicate an idea, a feeling, or a personal meaning.
  • Observe - Attending to visual contexts more closely than ordinary "looking" requires, and thereby to see things that otherwise might be missed.
  • Reflect - Learning to think and talk with others about an aspect of one's work or working process, and learning to judge one's own work and working process and the work of others.
  • Stretch & Explore - Reaching beyond your comfort zone, to explore without a preconceived plan, and to welcome the opportunity to learn from mistakes.
  • Understand (arts impact on) Community - Interacting as an artist with other artists (i.e., in classrooms, in local arts organizations, and across the art field) and within the broader society.

The Art Assignment Climate & Art Video Prompt

What are the works of art, and architecture, and objects that help you better understand our planet and it's shifting climate? As a follow up to your discussion of this theme, create an original piece of art to demonstrate your thoughts or perspective.
